The Girl with the Louding Voice | Abi Dare

One sentence:  Exactly what I expected, plus so heart-warming. Three thoughts: I love Adunni. She is a firecracker. I was so thrown off by the voice in this novel at first, but before long it flowed very smoothly and I loved that. Adunni’s life suuuucked, no doubt about that, but there were a few really good people helping her out. In that respect, she was lucky. Rating Characters: 5/5. Abi Daré can write some characters. Sometimes I Lie | Alice Feeney

One sentence:  Like, what the hell? Three thoughts: I came away from this book so confused, and apparently I’m not the only one. I am definitely reading the sequel, if there ever is one. This book is full – FULL – of terrible people! Rating Characters: 4/5. Wow, what a bunch of terrible people. But also, like, are they??? What’s the truth here? Never heard of Liv Constantine before now but based on this book, I’ll read more of her stuff. Rating Characters: 4/5. I had to really think a bit before judging  ...

My Dark Vanessa | Kate Elizabeth Russell

One sentence: Nestled neatly in the category of “fucked up things that are my favorite things to read about,” this book was really good and also really infuriating. Three thoughts: I’m not the type of reader who often finds myself (even internally) yelling at the characters in books, but I SURE DID THIS TIME. This is a terrible suggestion in reality, but part of me feels like young people should read books like this, to see exactly how gaslighting and manipulation happens. I’m now terrified  ...
