The Valedictorian of Being Dead, Heather B. Armstrong

I was on the library waitlist for this book since before it came out. I got it on Friday and finished it the same day. To be brief, I’ll say this: I hate memoirs and usually refuse to read them. However, I gave this one 5 stars on Goodreads. It’s compulsively readable and Armstrong is an excellent writer. (I mean, when you’ve had a successful blog for almost 20 years, that’s pretty clear.)

State of Wonder, Ann Patchett

I’ve said this before, and it’s still true: the more I like a book, the harder it is to review it. I don’t know what it is, exactly, about State of Wonder that I liked so much, but what I do know is that once I started it, I couldn’t put it down, and even when I wasn’t actively reading, I was often thinking about the characters. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen I feel accomplished after having read this. I have tried to read it before, but couldn’t ever really get into it.
